Going by the title, you will expect that this is something about some particular girl. But no, its more about a social issue. I started to write about this when i came accross a short movie directed by Mr. Anurag Kashyap titled "That Day after Everyday". Though it had been on my mind since a long time. So starting with the topic. Lets first trace a journey of a girl right from her existence to death.
When a girl is conceived: When the existence of a girl child is confirmed by medical processes in the womb of a woman. This stage is where it starts getting dangerous, because till this stage its unclear. This stage is where people may conduct female foeticide or may abort the baby.
Next stage is when the girl child is born. At this stage there maybe chances that the girl child will be killed by various ways or means.
Next is when the girl gets married. Due to the parallel existence of dowry system in India, there maybe chances where a girl maybe killed, or some who can bear all the atrocities may learn to live with it.
After that come the age when a child is born to the woman, there are cases where women are left or are killed when they cannot yield a boy.
Later comes a stage where a woman dies in the natural course if she survives the above stages. The above stages do cover typically the entire life of a woman/lady/girl.
Now based upon what has been mentioned above the people residing in a city would be thinking that this all happens in villages not in cities. But hold your thoughts, what do the city people do?Based on what the current scenario is, the people in city very violently humiliate the ladies. So from which angle are the city people proud of themselves from a girl's safety point of view? Moreover even if this is not the scenario in cities then too it does form a part of our responsibility to stop such occurences from happening.
Now let us cogitate on why this happens.
This is because of a thinking which many men have of superiority over females. Maybe termed as male jingoism. This has infected even the grass root levels of our country like in villages this thinking is promoted & passed on from generation to generation which is a shame in itself. This needs to change. Where a girl should be treated as equal, she is treated as being of a lower class. Agreed physically girls are not as strong as boys. But that does not deny them the right to be treated equal. In all the areas in world girls have made their mark by doing what every man can do & at instances even doing it better. Then why deny them the right to be equal?
A man needs a woman always at each stage. It maybe his mother, his sister, his friend, his wife, his daughter. There is always a woman required. No matter how much a man denies, the requirement of a woman still holds true. Both the sexes have been created by God as complemetary to one another. Both are not subsititutes for each other. So the male thinking needs a makeover & acknowledgement of the abovementioned facts.
Each male should respect the integrity of a lady/girl/woman & should treat her with utmost dignity as a man would want himself to be treated. Both should accept eatch others imperfections & respect those as no person in this world is perfect.
This will be too idealistic a world to live in. Even if you cannot respect the integrity od a woman any person whatsoever has no right to degrade it. But a start needs to be made & such thought should arise in each & every persons mind then only it will make a change & make the life of girls a bliss which they can enjoy & look forward to. A start for the better is necessary. Afterall India is a land where we believe in many Goddesses too.
A girl at every stage right from her birth faces a lot of problems apart from the common problems faced by boys too.
When a girl is born people try to kill her. But who understands that for a child to be born every man needs a woman too to carry the child in herself for 9 months. How would even a boy be born without a woman. Both the sexes are equally important is also proved by this.
When she gets married she leaves her entire family behind & adopts to the other persons family. So the person marrying her deems the utmost responsibility to take care of her. After all the girl is alsp like the guy who has a lot of ambitions, is well studied, even after that she adopts to other family & treats them as their own. So the minimum that a guy can do is take care of her properly but not at the cost of ones family & ones happiness because marriage is at the end of the day a mutual agreement to keep all people around you & yourself happy & should result into same.
All the ladies whether it is some persons mother or sister or friend or wife in this world deserve to be treated properly. Trust me there is no pride in humiliating a woman or a girl, instead if u fight with the person who humiliates & protect the lady/girl then you should feel proud. Also feel proud to have a girl child, as a girlchild is the ultimate source of happiness in this world. She will definitely fill your life with bright sunlight & guys feel proud of your sisters too when they achieve something because you ought to be her support & encouragement system on whom she can rely on else if its not you then who will support her?
Accross villages in India girls are also viewed as liabilities & boys as assets. This is beacuase a boy will grow up & earn. But I say if you give an opportunity to a girl to study then a girl will also earn. Of the resources provided are equal both the sexes have equal opportunity. This should also be imposed. Even the governments are doing their bit by reservations, financial aids to girls etc. But it should also encourage the education of girls.
Its high time that thinking should change. India is on the verge of being the next superpower & such a thinking is only repressive if not progressive. This is the time to change, bring about a change in ones thoughts, bringing equality in mind. Is it too high a price for growth of a girl? I guess no...
Lets end this on a positive note with a hope that this too will change for the better & girls feel safe...
Cheers to a better future!!
